Why awareness matters

Heritage survives when people value it. Awareness — knowing what a place is, why it matters and how to treat it with care — is the first step towards responsible engagement.

Principles

  • Accurate, sourced information
  • Respect for communities connected to a place or tradition
  • Responsible behaviour at heritage sites
  • Clear distinction between interpretation and established fact
